We built these flat front shorts for warm rounds and long walks. The solid dark khaki fabric has enough give to let you crouch over a read without pulling at the waist or thighs. It resists creasing out of the wash, drying quickly when the midday heat picks up.

What we would tell you on the range

  • Solid dark khaki weave. The fabric is light, breathable, and stays flat against the leg through four hours in the sun. It holds its solid earth tone through repeated wash cycles without fading or holding onto stubborn course dirt.
  • Waist and flat front. We tailored the front flat to lay clean under an untucked polo or tucked beneath a belt. Built-in stretch through the waist gives you room to rotate through a swing without pinching or riding up.
  • Pocket design and storage. Four deep pockets carry tees, a repair tool, and a phone without bulging out at the sides. One back pocket zips shut so a score card or cardholder stays secure when you move.
  • Wash and care. Wash on a cold cycle with similar darks and hang to dry. The woven synthetic sheds wrinkles naturally on the line, so you can pull them down ready to wear without running an iron over the hem.

Worth doing

  • Wash it cold, inside out, with the placket buttoned so it keeps its line.
  • Hang it to dry; performance jersey is usually wearable again by morning.
  • Store it on a hanger with real shoulders, not folded damp in the bag.
  • Check the size chart on the partner page before you settle on a size.

Worth avoiding

  • Fabric softener. It coats the fibre and the wicking quietly stops working.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is hard on elastane and on printed panels.
  • An iron face-down on a print or a logo.
  • Leaving it wadded in the trunk between weekends.
