We built this quarter zip in a heathered sage green knit to pull on over a polo during early tee times. The four-way stretch fabric moves freely through the top of your swing without binding at the elbows. A contrast collar stands neat when zipped up against the wind, while the smooth zipper lets you vent heat as the morning warms.

What we would tell you on the range

Contrast mock neck. The stand collar uses contrast detailing inside the band to maintain its shape through repeated washing. Zipped up, it blocks the early breeze without rubbing your neck.
Four-way stretch knit. We chose a soft, lightweight knit with balanced stretch across the chest and back. It gives your arms full reach on the backswing and recovers cleanly after eighteen holes.
Layering room. We cut the torso with enough ease to sit over a standard pique or jersey polo without bunching. Long sleeves give full sun coverage on mild afternoons.
Cold wash care. Wash this layer cold with like colours and tumble dry on low heat. The heathered fabric resists pilling and keeps its soft hand without fabric softeners.

Worth doing

Wash it cold, inside out, with the placket buttoned so it keeps its line.
Hang it to dry; performance jersey is usually wearable again by morning.
Store it on a hanger with real shoulders, not folded damp in the bag.

Worth avoiding

Fabric softener. It coats the fibre and the wicking quietly stops working.
The hot tumble dryer, which is hard on elastane and on printed panels.
An iron face-down on a print or a logo.
Leaving it wadded in the trunk between weekends.
