What we would tell you on the range

  • Mock neck and zipper. The stand collar sits close enough to block an early morning chill without crowding your neck. A smooth quarter zip lets you dump heat quickly as the sun comes out, and the neck tag is omitted so the seam sits flat.
  • Room through the shoulders. We gave the sleeves and shoulders a relaxed cut so the fabric does not bind at the top of your backswing. The knit stretches across the back panel, leaving you free to finish your turn while wearing a polo underneath.
  • Side tee holder. A small slot on the right side holds a golf tee ready between holes. The solid white finish stays crisp through the round, pairing with any print or solid polo in your bag.
  • Washing and shape. Machine wash cold with like whites and tumble dry on low. The knit holds its body and white tone without shrinking, and the collar keeps its upright shape straight off the line.

Worth doing

  • Wash it cold, inside out, with the placket buttoned so it keeps its line.
  • Hang it to dry; performance jersey is usually wearable again by morning.
  • Store it on a hanger with real shoulders, not folded damp in the bag.

Worth avoiding

  • Fabric softener. It coats the fibre and the wicking quietly stops working.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is hard on elastane and on printed panels.
  • An iron face-down on a print or a logo.
  • Leaving it wadded in the trunk between weekends.
