What we would tell you on the range

  • Brushed fleece interior. The inside is knit with a soft fleece back that traps warm air without adding heavy bulk. It breathes well when the sun breaks through, keeping your body temperature steady across eighteen holes.
  • Mock neck and zipper. A stand collar keeps wind off your neck on open fairways. The quarter zip pulls down smoothly to dump excess heat as you walk, and the contrast stripe detail finishes the clean neckline.
  • Room to layer. We cut the sleeves and torso with enough ease to pull comfortably over a collared golf polo. The fabric glides over pique or jersey without bunching up under your arms during a full turn.
  • Care and wash. Wash cold with similar colors and tumble dry on low heat. The fleece keeps its loft and the knit holds its shape out of the dryer without needing an iron.

Worth doing

  • Wash it cold, inside out, with the placket buttoned so it keeps its line.
  • Hang it to dry; performance jersey is usually wearable again by morning.
  • Store it on a hanger with real shoulders, not folded damp in the bag.

Worth avoiding

  • Fabric softener. It coats the fibre and the wicking quietly stops working.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is hard on elastane and on printed panels.
  • An iron face-down on a print or a logo.
