What we would tell you on the range

  • Stretch knit fabric. The smooth synthetic yarn blends stretch with structure, letting your shoulders turn without pulling at the back. It pulls sweat away quickly and will not stick to your skin during humid rounds.
  • Collar and placket. A crisp three-button placket feeds into a self-fabric collar stitched to lie flat around the neck. It keeps its points straight instead of curling up after a few holes in the heat.
  • Vented lower hem. Small side slits at the hem give the bottom of the shirt some ease over the waistband. It hangs straight when worn untucked and stays put when you decide to tuck it in.
  • Washing and care. Machine wash cold and tumble dry on low heat. The knit resists wrinkles and shrinkage, coming off the line with its shape and deep purple pattern intact without needing an iron.

Worth doing

  • Wash it cold, inside out, with the placket buttoned so it keeps its line.
  • Hang it to dry; performance jersey is usually wearable again by morning.
  • Store it on a hanger with real shoulders, not folded damp in the bag.

Worth avoiding

  • Fabric softener. It coats the fibre and the wicking quietly stops working.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is hard on elastane and on printed panels.
  • An iron face-down on a print or a logo.
