What we would tell you on the range

  • Collar with inner contrast. The three-button collar uses a patterned inner band that keeps its crisp line through the afternoon. Reinforced stitching along the placket stops the neckline from curling after washing.
  • Four-way stretch knit. We chose a lightweight knit that stretches in four directions so shoulders clear the backswing without fabric bunching across the chest. It sheds heat and dries fast under direct midday sun.
  • Side vents at the hem. The straight hem is cut with clean side slits. It lies flat when worn over shorts and stays put when tucked into golf trousers during a long walk.
  • Washing and fabric care. Wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colours and tumble dry on low heat. Hang it promptly so the collar and dark grey knit retain their original shape.

Worth doing

  • Wash it cold, inside out, with the placket buttoned so it keeps its line.
  • Hang it to dry; performance jersey is usually wearable again by morning.
  • Store it on a hanger with real shoulders, not folded damp in the bag.

  • Fabric softener. It coats the fibre and the wicking quietly stops working.
  • The hot tumble dryer, which is hard on elastane and on printed panels.
  • An iron face-down on a print or a logo.
